Some files related to the the search for the Kim family

There is much I have to say on my thoughts and feelings about this entire tragedy, but here I'll just post some files/information related to the search. If you are interested in my thoughts, please see Joe Duck's Blog where most of my thoughts have been posted at some point.

This report was released Friday, January 5, 2007. It is basically a time line of events by various agencies. Once the "other" OSSA (Oregon State Sheriff's Association) report is complete, the Governor has stated that he will be appointing a task force to further review each and make recommendations. Google Earth Files
(note: If you do not already have Google Earth, which is actually a very cool thing to play with, you may download it here: Google Earth Download) You will first need to install this on your computer, and then when you click on a Google Earth file, it should open automatically.

The Kim's "Likley" Path in Google Earth (and an unlikely alternate route)
Just playing around a bit in Google Earth, I've mapped out the path likely taken by the Kim's as widely shown in the media, including some key points/locations. Out of curiosity, I traced another route that gets to the same place - it's not likely since the elevation gain is so much more than the path commonly shown, but I just wanted to see if it was possible to get there another way. It looks like there are a few ways, actually, and one of them I've traced. If you open this in Google Earth, you can get a little bit of an idea of the terrain and so forth. (Link will take you to Google Earth Community page where you will have the option to open this either in Google Maps or Google Earth - again, Google Earth really is the much better way to view.)

Proposed Peavine Road Detour in Google Earth
A couple of the Search and Rescue folks have suggested that the Kim's may have taken this path just to get onto Bear Camp Road (this happens quite a bit before the part where mine above begins), rather than just continuing on the same road more directly. This is suggested because there have been many detours due to rock slides and the Biscuit Fire so that the old detour signs may have led the Kim's to take this route. This is the Google Earth posted by these SAR folks.
